History of Day Funeral Homes
Since 1949 James R. "Bob" Day
has been in the Funeral Service Profession. After His enlistment
in the Army Air Corp (
Air Force) ended in W.W. 2 and he received his Mortuary Degree from
St Louis School Of Mortuary
Science in 1949, he began his career at the Zieren-Day Funeral
Home
in Carlyle, IL in May of 1949.Tthe Day family, is still very much
involved with the Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle to this very
date.
James
R. Day was offered the opportunity to Purchase Cox & Martin
Funeral Homes in Sandoval and
Patoka, Illinois, and Day Funeral Homes began in 1981 when the Day
family took over the Cox-Martin Funeral Homes in Sandoval and Patoka
from Dean Martin and Mark Cox who had started the firm in 1938.
The Day family were fortunate to have the
opportunity to work with Dean & Virginia Martin and Mark & Margaret
Cox and were able to call on their years of experience
with the local community.
Upon the Day Family ownership the
funeral home was operated under the name of Cox-Martin & Day
Funeral Home until 1994 when it was renamed Day Funeral Homes Ltd.
However James R. Day purchasing
the funeral
Homes in Sandoval
brought him back home to Sandoval, His home town. Owing the funeral home
two block form where he grew up as a child.
John R "Bobby". Day. joined the firm in 1981 at the time of initial
purchase and Dennis D. Day joined the firm in 1984. Over the years we have
remodeled both buildings to better accommodate the needs of the families
we serve. However
our main goal has never changed. "We offer the best quality funeral
service to the people of our community"
Day Funeral Home is a local, family-owned
corporation and all monies are kept locally. We believe in our
communities and support many worthy
causes within those communities. Day Funeral Homes beleives that being involved
is for the betterment of everyone.
